"Hello everyone and welcome back to a new format, a new type of video series that we're sort of debuting here at Gamereactor. So it's going to be looking at various different sort of major developments that are taking place in the games industry. We're gonna be kicking things off by talking about something that you'll no doubt been heard or been hearing a huge amount about over the past couple of days. It is gonna seemingly have quite serious repercussions so it's quite an exciting thing to talk about but nonetheless it's gonna be happening relatively soon by the looks of things. Something that we've been seeing sort of ripples leading to this decision for years almost at this point as well and that's relating to Xbox. Now before we get into it and what this is actually about let me introduce Alex again. Hello. Me and Alex, I just rambled on for like a good like 35 seconds. No I was enjoying it, I was enjoying the you know the like I was waiting with bated breath for what this is what this is going to be about you know. Yeah it's weird with the camera because usually I can just sit back and watch."
"You know chill out with the podcast but now you know now I've got the staring into the bright lights like a deer in the headlights. It's a different world of events now but yeah it's gonna be it's interesting you bring up the podcast because that's what this is gonna be very similar to really. It's just sort of us me and you just sort of talking away for a good 20 minutes about these major events. I think we're gonna do sort of separate sort of videos based on things in like maybe tech as well things like that but today yes it's Xbox and the reason why we're talking about it is because there are new report rumors as you might say are going about suggesting that Xbox is essentially about to sack off its console exclusivity. It's going to look to start debuting some of its its projects some of its home cooked titles on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. Now Xbox has never really been as of late that much of an exclusive publisher you know a lot of their titles it comes to Xbox and PC at the same time but there's there's never been any thought any thought whatsoever to bringing Xbox titles to PlayStation the biggest competitor there but it looks like it's going to be happening. Now we've heard rumors recently that it's going to be Sea of Thieves and Hi-Fi Rush that are going to be getting it which to me makes sense you know Sea of Thieves a long-running game big multiplayer game Hi-Fi Rush Shadow Drop kind of came out of nowhere acclaimed title but the rumors are also pointing to Starfield and Indiana Jones. I think it's going to be interesting but you know from your immediate hearing about this rumor and what it's sort of elaborating towards what do you think about this is this something that you think is going to happen or do you think this is just absolute waffle? It'd be cool it'd be well it's kind of cool if it does happen it's kind of cool if it doesn't I think we come from like a different bubble where we have all the consoles and PCs to make sure that no matter what we need to cover we're we're covered so from a general consumer who might just have like a PlayStation or they die that's pretty cool but at the same time I think Xbox is playing quite a little suave game here if it is true Xbox has been building their reputation for the past 10 or so years since they lost the the Xbox One console waters the nice guys the big brother of gaming the most money but they're not going to try and like crush anyone whereas if you look at a lot of other sort of industries like that where there's one big guy with a lot of money usually they're like everyone up I mean Xbox are buying everyone up but they're doing it to they're they're telling you they're not doing it to crush the competition when they are um and so Xbox coming out and saying oh we're giving it to PlayStation and Switch here's Hi-Fi Rush guys you love that game but then you know it comes into the thing of make sure it's an Xbox game there's going to be loads of like boring business stuff going on behind the scenes that we don't really care about but games wise I mean it's always good for people to have more platforms for stuff but it'd be really really interesting if this does happen I think it'd be Xbox officially giving up on their own console in a way because then they just sort of move to PC where the PC Master Race can get everything they want from Game Pass and then the people who do have PS5s and Switches will play on those with Xbox because they'll wait a few months it is interesting I think I think a game like as we say Sea of Thieves is perfect for this you know it's basically been an Xbox console so yeah I mean I don't know what the Xbox community would be I don't know why they'd be even marginally angry about that going to PlayStation like they've had it for so long like share a little bit come on and you can like go you can go and plunder like all the noobs ships like if you've been playing on Xbox for seven years and suddenly there's a bunch of people on like little schooners yeah you just full speed ahead just ram them straight through I've had it exactly and Hi-Fi Rush is another one that's like perfect for it because there's no reason why it shouldn't come platforms at the end of the day I think I've not had the chance to play it yet no but I really want to it's like a smallish sort of game that's that's really found its success because of Game Pass I don't think if it was on Game Pass it would have done half as well just launching on Xbox and PC but that's a different thing in its entirety but I think you know these rumors are also suggesting that Starfield and Indiana Jones are going to come to PlayStation I maybe in the future it'll come to Switch right depends on how powerful this like Super Nintendo Switch is going to be I think Starfield and Indiana Jones are probably never going to land on the Nintendo platform personally or if they did it's going to be a real like dumbed down version that's probably not going to be good for anyone but maybe Indiana Jones because Wolfenstein came out on the Switch and like it was the first game I think that was like you're turning your Switch into a bomb yeah you know you're gonna ironic really for you know a BJ Blazkowicz game yeah but no it's it's an interesting thing because I don't think Starfield and Indiana Jones if they do come to PlayStation in parity right like what PlayStation do with PC so you know God of War Ragnarok launched in 2022 now and we still don't have it on PC and I don't think it's going to be on PC for a while either by the looks of things maybe by the end of this year yeah exactly like maybe like six months away or something like that yeah I would expect Starfield and Indiana Jones to be similar I think that they will eventually come to PlayStation but it you know Starfield might not even be till 2025 because you know it's a very big game for Xbox and I assume that as much more consoles and more platforms I assume that it's not something that's going to be happening like anytime soon um it's enjoying such a good time on PC right now what do you mean it's 39% of the last reviews have been positive 39% guys maybe maybe that first rumored expansion when that finally debuts maybe swings around I'll fix it I'll fix it it'll be an Elder Scrolls 6 expansion then people can actually have what they want but there's certain games though that I think like fundamentally will probably never suit making the jump to PlayStation like Forza Motorsport it'd be like bringing Gran Turismo to Xbox like that Forza and Gran Turismo like they are very console specific franchises and I don't think we'll ever see much crossover between those two or even like Halo like I couldn't see them bringing out Halo for PlayStation if it was it'd have to be like the Master Chief Collection first instead of like Infinite or something yeah yeah I just don't know and are they gonna make everything?I imagine they'd have to make everything cross-platform as well it seems like a lot of extra work to be honest seems like there's gonna be a lot of developers who are probably gonna be reading these rumors and going like please please no um because it is a lot of extra work to bring in things in cross-platform I think a lot of people um assume that it's just a press a PlayStation like you just remap the stuff so that you know x equals square and stuff like that but it's it's a big process it's why like sometimes you see a lot of people who are doing a lot of first party stuff just stick with that yeah no for sure and I think that's also a reason why we see a lot of console games come to PC and they're fundamentally just they don't work because there's a lot of differences between these platforms even if it's just consoles like that it's not as simple as just pressing a button and bring them over um but I think again one of the key things to take here though isn't just that it looks like Xbox is adjusting their strategy again we've been seeing this for years now you eloquently said that they lost the console war in the Xbox one and the Xbox one and the Xbox one and the Xbox one and the Xbox one and the Xbox one and the Xbox one I think they got thrashed I think it was an absolute murder like it wasn't even close the Xbox one you went from the Xbox 360 which was the market leader for consoles to the Xbox one and it was an absolute bump like it couldn't do anything it was miles behind to do it tried to do I think it was like in some ways it was like if you brought out the Xbox one now I think loads of people would buy it because there's this there's this thing now of like it's like the Apple Vision Pro like people want their tech to do like everything at once they want it to feel really futuristic and so the Xbox one sort of is like that like if you had a 2024 version of the Kinect it would do a lot better than the 2013 one so people I think would be really into it but bringing that out in 2013 and having Don Watts's name go actually we don't care about gamers anymore you should go get lost go sod yourselves and it's like um cheers guys like I might just go for the PlayStation actually it sounds like it's going to be it's cheaper yeah it's more for it's bringing out more games at launch it's got better games at launch it also has all the third-party stuff that you'd want yeah yeah yeah they definitely they lost on so many different fronts in that battle um and we're still feeling that repercussion today because well they've never really pulled back from it the console sales are still miles behind what PlayStation and Nintendo offer up but again that's the point it doesn't matter that the console sales are so far behind for Xbox because they're backed by Microsoft and they um well they have different avenues that they make way more revenue in nowadays yeah Game Pass is significant money no exactly Game Pass is so much bigger than PlayStation Plus and if you don't believe that if you think that it's not the case then all you have to look at it is and see what Game Pass brings to it every month for me for PlayStation Plus to get a launch title it's like you ask yourself like why why is this title not just launching why is it coming to PlayStation Plus at launch what's the cap it feels like they're kneecapping it yeah exactly something they don't trust the game to sell whereas something comes to Game Pass now it also can sell well like it's the thing about like that Power World has two million had two million players on Steam and those people have bought the game full price and then it had like seven million on Game Pass and those people are paying monthly and so you can have both and still make a you know absolute ton of money well I mean if you're just look at what Sega's done with Game Pass both like a Dragon Infinite 3 Reload have both launched on Game Pass and they both have been massive PC launches as well yeah record numbers on Steam so you know Game Pass is is a is a monster in what it does for Microsoft and X and uh well Microsoft Gaming is what the division's called these days isn't it so I think that you combine that with cloud streaming and how again Microsoft are years ahead of PlayStation what Sony are doing in the streaming technology world I PlayStation's answer to cloud streaming which again you can do literally anywhere you can do it on your phone on your browser whatever you can do anywhere is a PlayStation Portal which costs like 350 quid or whatever it's like it's to me it's this this decision again this is all rumor right we none of this has been confirmed yet if it the rumors are suggesting that Xbox is going to potentially announce this officially sort of late February early March time but to me this seems like a dead ringer of an announcement I don't know how they'll do it that's a really key thing you know are they going to drop it as a blog post because you don't want to give too much attention to your competitors to the PlayStation because that seems to me really unusual yeah there still feels like there's especially with the Activision Blizzard deal being so fresh and the fact that PlayStation's fought so hard to stop that it feels really weird for them to suddenly then turn around and shake hands and be like actually guys we love gaming game wherever you want guys go game it just feels like I mean that's corporate business though isn't it like you you kill a man with one hand and then you shake and others with the other um but it's it would like a lot of people are very clued in I think to the gaming space more so than a lot of other hobbies and so if you see Xbox suddenly go with mates with PlayStation I think they've always had a good relationship with Nintendo yeah um so I wouldn't see like High Fire Rush coming to switch seems like a no-brainer all the other stuff coming to switch seems like a no-brainer anything else anything with PlayStation maybe this is just like the old lad who used to get into the console Wars in me but it just still feels like there's a bit of but it's it's like a real taboo thing to say yes this will release on PlayStation as well I think the big question though then is will Redfall come out of PlayStation well yes actually yeah that's that's the big question will Redfall come to Nintendo switch because that's a that's an experience I'm locked in for yeah um no the the big question is of course regarding game pass do you think that game pass will ever come to PlayStation or is that completely out of the equation no PlayStation I don't think they'd let it I think Xbox would definitely want it to happen because why not then they own the gaming subscription as well I think maybe it does but maybe PlayStation still say actually you still need a plus subscription to play online so you can have Game Pass on PlayStation but you can't just have Game Pass on PlayStation you also have to be a PlayStation Plus Subscriber which means that it needs to come back with you can get back some subscriber which means that you're paying at least like 60 quid a year i think it is now because they bump the price up so at least you're paying that and then you're also paying game pass and some people might do that some people genuinely might just be like i tell you what i pay if i rather than buy five new games at 70 pounds each i'll pay my game pass subscription and play 10 games within a year yeah and that seems to be how a lot of people like it now because individual game prices are going up by so much that you might as well either wait for something to come out on game pass half the time i wait for something to come to free on epic it's like every christmas and every summer epic brings out like at least something that you're like you know oh yeah i didn't get a chance to play that i'll pick it up for free but that's not in the topic that's not on the topic of today's conversation it'd be like game pass plus right they'll do a new subscription offering or something playstation yeah ultimate ultimate the funny thing is is i can half see game pass arriving on playstation more likely than game pass arriving on nintendo does that seem oh yeah i just i can't see game pass coming to nintendo whatsoever i don't know why i just don't feel like it's gonna it would ever suit the platform i again i i think limited i think yeah and i think nintendo is so heavily built on sort of physical and and singular launches and i don't think they're necessarily like the majority of the nintendo player base really cares about it sounds weird to say but i think the majority of nintendo player base do not care about the nintendo player base right it sounds weird to say but i think that it's a very casual platform i think it's a very very casual platform that is very they're very into what they want and that's that right they don't necessarily looking for additional not broader gaming but they're into gaming their games exactly and then when you look at xbox yeah and you look at xbox you think what am i going to play and you boot up game pass you're like oh i could play this or i could play that or i could play this so that's just come to it like it's a very it's a very different sort of user base i but no i think it's interesting and we're going to see more repercussions about this in the coming i'd say a couple of months or so i don't think we're going to really notice a huge deal about this in 2024 yes maybe sea of thieves makes its debut on playstation or something maybe hi-fi rush does as well i wouldn't expect to see much else um and there's a final question then right to wrap up this this episode of this debut episode of whatever we're going to call the show which we have not yet figured out working title for so stay tuned uh do you think this is going to have counter effects like do you think you'll see playstation games on xbox no i think the thing with i think what we have now is we don't have xbox exclusives we have microsoft exclusives and it's been that way for a few years now which means something technically is microsoft if it comes to windows and because playstation has been releasing via pc they will say well there's no point in us doing an xbox release because if you're an xbox player you probably have a pc that you that you use as your primary machine but yeah i don't think so i'm not even sure this what this does in terms of long-term effects it could just be a short-term thing that doesn't boost like is it going to breathe new life into sea of thieves maybe for like a month it's going to give new people access to hi-fi rush but the the point of this is really it's going to bring a lot of single player sales i think more than anything else and so that that's the only real benefit i see and i think if microsoft is going to be able to do that i think it's going to be a lot of more than that they're fishing in the wrong pond yeah it's going to be interesting for sure i think we're going to see a lot of sold copies um sort of press releases and things like that popping up if this does take place i don't think we're going to see the typical sort of so-and-so's hit this many player thingies or whatever like it usually is because they can't say sold copies when it's on game pass because there's never any sold copies because that's just the way that it fundamentally works uh but yes it's an interesting thing again if this uh video series ends up taking off we'll no doubt be talking about this when it actually gets officially announced which we assume assuming it's going to get officially announced it might not be this might be a rumor that's completely shut down in a couple of weeks but this does seem highly likely it does seem like something that's been works for a long period of time so no doubt expect more information about it soon until then though this has been the sort of debut episode of working title series and uh pilot working title pilot series which will create an actual full name for at some point in the future um we'll probably do this on a weekly basis or something unless there's something really big that happens like for example when xbox decided to randomly announce the acquisition of activision blizzard and shocked the world yeah which that was fun i did a couple of hours into the working day but that was uh anyway that's not rad in itself well that's america what if we announce something at like 10 p.m your time but it's actually 2 p.m our time yeah thank you know thanks state of play thanks uh developer direct thanks uh nintendo direct even on it now yeah thanks thanks game awards all of you all of you exactly but uh yeah we'll be back next week then to talk about something equally exciting no doubt and until then thank you for watching this episode"
